Ode to Mom, Part II

Without further ado, my Ode to Mom, 2011 version...

Once upon a bygone time, in a land of milk and cheese,
There lived a daughter and her folks along with siblings three.
And as this daughter grew and grew, she knew without a doubt
That she would one day bear her own, but strict, tight rules? Get out!

No snacks ere dinner?
Yep, you’ll be thinner.
The no telephone rule?
You see your friends at school.
No songs post ‘90?
The lyrics are slimy.
Two pony tails weekly?
They make you too cheeky.

But soon this girl hatched two young kids and saw her mom was wise -
These rules that once seemed mean and trite were lifelines in disguise.
Surviving high school with straight As, she balanced friends and books,
And forced to go on nature walks, she now loved trees and brooks.
Slender from the lack of snacks, and smarter from pure songs,
Now she used the same old rules to chide her own kids’ wrongs.
She longed the day her kids would see and start to say the same -
Mom, you are an example of the love for which I’ll aim.
Although the girl did love her mom, one point she always failed:
Her mom could not quite nip the love of that darn pony tail.

:)  I love you, Mom!!
